Inside the U.S.–China Trade Conversation

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to participate in a panel at the Top Producer Summit in Nashville, covering U.S.-China trade dynamics, Brazil’s rapid expansion, and what producers should realistically expect in the months ahead..

The discussion was moderated by Michelle Rook of Farm Journal, and featured:

  • Jiang Liu, Minister of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy

  • Lee Trimmer of Green Shoots

  • Aaron Edwards of Santos Springs

“Stabilization” — Not a Deal

Michelle opened the panel with Minister Lyu, who began by framing the U.S.-China relationship this way:

“We are in the stabilization phase in this relationship.”

He described the period of tariff increases as a:

“Tariff rate competition… going into the territory over 100%.”

He then clarified:
