U.S. corn planting continued moving at a quick clip last week, reaching 86% complete as of May 24 — up 10% on the week and 3% ahead of the 5-year average — while emergence climbed to 60% by May 31 versus the 58% average.

The western Corn Belt continues to run furthest ahead of average, while the eastern Belt has been slowed by rain over the past few weeks.
North Dakota is now 18% ahead of average, and Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska are all above 90% planted. Meanwhile, wetter conditions continue to drag on progress in parts of the eastern Belt, including Pennsylvania and Ohio.
